Battery Council International Innovation Award
UNISEG Products has been shortlisted as one of eight companies vying for the Battery Council International’s Sally Breidegam Miksiewicz Innovation Award. Submissions are judged on the criteria of sustainability, safety, cost, performance, uniqueness & value.
UNISEG Products submission is for the battery container they have designed and developed for the storage and transportation of used car batteries & other lead acid batteries. Marketed as the Battery Transport & Storage (BTS) Container, it delivers a safer, more environmentally sustainable and efficient method to store and transport used lead acid batteries destined for recycling. The BTS Container addresses many of the short comings of the widely used wooden pallet, including safer, more secure transportation and elimination of battery acid, containing high levels of en-trained lead, into the environment.
The Battery Transport & Storage Container is designed to be deployed at businesses, (Used Battery Generators – UBG) that produce the used lead acid batteries. Due to its unique front load configuration, UBGs can ergonomically stack their heavy batteries into the container. The BTS Container also prevents any acid leaking into the environment and comes with the appropriate dangerous goods signage.
When the container is full, it can simply be closed and secured by 6 over centre latches, ready for immediate transport directly to a battery recycling facility. This eliminates the manual and double handling that currently occurs when the Scrap Metal Industry collect and recycle lead acid batteries.
Demonstration Used Battery Recycling Service
UNISEG Products established Battery Rescue www.batteryrescue.com.au in 2015, as a demonstration battery collection business using the BTS Containers, in Perth, Australia. Battery Rescue supplies the BTS Containers to its customers to store their used batteries and when full, collects the BTS Containers and provides an empty exchange unit. The full battery containers are then ready for immediate transport to the recycler and require no additional wrapping, strapping and dangerous good labelling.
The winner of BCI’s Innovation Award will be announced at this year’s BCI Convention and Power Mart Expo, from April 29th to May 1st.
